Milton Keynes Breakers Basketball Club

Milton Keynes Breakers Basketball Club

The Milton Keynes Breakers are a basketball club based in the city of Milton KeynesEngland. The club was founded in 2017, adding the Breakers name in 2022, after the famous Bletchley Codebreakers.

The senior men’s team entered the National Basketball League in 2022, marking the return of basketball to the city of Milton Keynes for the first time since the Milton Keynes Lions, who played in the British Basketball League from 1998 to 2012, moved to London. In the 2023/24 senior men’s national cup, they became the first non-division 1 team to win the competition in over 50 years.

The club competes in junior National Basketball League competitions in all age groups for boys and girls, while also offering community basketball in 6 different local basketball centres with their own intra-club basketball league.

Additionally, the club provides a sixth form basketball academy, in collaboration with the 5 Dimensions Trust, competing in the College Basketball League (CBL).

As the Milton Keynes Basketball Club, we have grown from 40 boys and girls playing in one small gym to today offering community basketball to over 1000 boys and girls, training and playing out of 6 local basketball centres.

The 2024/25 season will see the third season of the Breakers Community Basketball League (CBL), our own intraclub league where our 6 basketball centres compete from U8 – U19, offering local, competitive basketball for our members without ever leaving Milton Keynes.

As well as our community participation programme, we offer a talent pathway for those wishing to play at a higher level. Our talent pathway starts with our Development teams, a mixed group of our youngest and most talented boys and girls who are invited to additional training sessions with our most senior coaches. We then offer opportunities to play Junior National League, with teams at every age group from U12 to U18 for both boys and girls.

For those who wish to combine their basketball with their education, in conjunction with the 5 Dimensions Trust, we offer a Sixth Form Basketball Academy at Shenley Brook End School for both male and female players. The academy is led by Breakers’ Head Coach Billy Beddow, assisted by fellow Breakers Coach Adam Digby.

From the 2024/25 season, the MK5D Basketball Academy will also compete in the WEABL, an elite U19 women’s league. The women’s academy will be headed up by Breakers Coach Bjorn Westman.

Students at the academy receive additional training (individual and team) as well as support services including strength & conditioning, video analysis and physiotherapy. The boys’ academy team also compete in the College Basketball League, becoming National Champions in 2022/23 and National Runners-up in 2023/24.

And for the season 2023/24, in conjunction with Bletchley College, we are opened a second Basketball Academy, headed up by MK Breakers star Mike New Jr to cater for the increased demand.
